Evaluation day

Two days was go on, but the IELTS test is always being thought, especially about the mistakes was I done. Most of the my instructor asked me about the test. They asked me about: what did I feel before one day toward the test?, what did I feel before one hours toward the test, what happened while the test? and what did I learn after the test?

In fact, I was nervous, because it is first time I join on IELTS test. I have not experience about it. Moreover, I have to get the target (band 6.5 overall) and also it is the golden chance for me as I am not pay the IELTS cost, all of course cost and IELTS cost were funded by DIKTI.

When the test is taking place, I have not enough time to answer the all questions. Although, I always do the simulation before. Beside that, the condition during the test is not comfort. Because the regulations is strict.

I realized that the time is not enough for me to prepare the test only 45 days took course. I need more time to improve my English. Now, what will be happened, I surrender to God... :)

Retell Story: Letters to Juliet

Taking English course every day had been begun from 08:00 PM till 04:30 AM make me so tired. Sometime my energy decreases gradually although every instructor motivated me every time. Someday after break, Mr Zainal who is writing instructor came into the class. He gave me some exercise and then offered me to go upstairs. In fact, he offered me to watching film in Language Laboratory of Sriwijaya University which made me feel so happy. But he gave me exercise to make note about important things, all of which I must rewrite down at piece of paper.

In Language, I watched a movie which the title is Letter to Juliet. It is described about a young American; Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is woman who works for The New Yorker as a fact checker. She goes on a pre-honeymoon with her chef fiancé Victor (Gael García Bernal) to Verona, Italy. Victor is unmoved by the romance of Italy and uses his time to research his soon-to-open restaurant, often neglecting Sophie. Sophie accidentally discovers an unanswered "letter to Juliet" by a Claire Smith from 1957, one of thousands of missives left at the fictional lover's Verona courtyard that are typically answered by the "secretaries of Juliet". She answers it and within a week the now elderly Claire (Vanessa Redgrave) arrives in Verona with her handsome barrister grandson Charlie (Chris Egan). Claire and Sophie take an instant liking to each other, but Charlie and Sophie do not get along.
Following the advice in Sophie's reply, Claire decides to look for her long-lost love, Lorenzo Bartolini (Franco Nero). Sophie, thinking Claire's story might help her with her writing career, helps Claire. The two find out that there are multiple Lorenzo Bartolinis living in the area. After many days of searching for the right Lorenzo, they find that one is dead. Charlie blames Sophie for his grandmother's sadness. He accuses her of not knowing what real loss is. Claire, witnessing the dispute, tells Charlie he was wrong and Sophie's mother had walked away from her when she was a little girl. The next day, Claire insists that Charlie apologize to Sophie at breakfast, which he does. After dinner, Sophie goes out with Charlie and talks to him about love, and the two kiss. The next morning is their last day of searching for Lorenzo. On a whim, Claire points out a vineyard to Charlie and asks if he could stop so they can have a farewell drink for Sophie. As Charlie drives down the road, Claire sees a young man who looks exactly like her Lorenzo. They discover the man is Lorenzo Bartolini's grandson, and Claire and Lorenzo reunite.
Back in New York, Sophie breaks up with Victor before returning to Verona to attend Claire and Lorenzo's wedding. She finds Charlie with another woman, Patricia, and runs out crying. Charlie comes out to find her, and she admits she loves him but tells him to go back to Patricia. Charlie tells Sophie that the woman is his cousin Patricia and tells Sophie he loves her. After that, I went to dormitory to continue the assignment. I wrote the synopsis about the story and noticed the best moment which was seen.

GALUNGAN IN 2012

Exactly Wednesday, 28^th august 2012, had been celebrated religion ceremony. All of Hindu in Indonesia celebrates Galungan day. Galungan is the most important feast for Hinduism, a celebration to honor the creator of the universe (Ida Sang Hyang Widi) and the spirits of the honored ancestors. Beside that, Galungan is a day where Hinduism strengthens the relation among Hinduism or other religion.

Galungan is a victory of good (Dharma) over evil (Adharma), and encourages the Hinduism to show their gratitude to the creator and sainted ancestors.

Galungan occurs once in the 210-day cycle of the Balinese calendar, and marks the time of the year when the spirits of the ancestors are believed to visit the earth. Balinese Hindus perform rituals that are meant to welcome and entertain these returning spirits.

Galungan is a time and day where I was born. My parent always makes cake to celebrate my time and day of birth. They love me so much. They pray to me for my safety and healthy. They are myhero.  

But Galungan in this day is different. I lived so far from family and could not celebrate it where I lived in Palembang to take English course. That day, I went to campus which located about 1 kilo meters from my dormitory by walk.  Although I did not celebrate it with parent, brother and sister, I always kept spirit.

SHORTEST COURSE WITH PROF. MAARTIN DOLK

May be you will ask me, why I used “SHORTEST COURSE PROF. MAARTIN  DOLK” to be passage title! This is my memory when I went to Palembang to continue my master program. I took course only three days exactly 19 to 21 July 2012. Each of them conducted different programs. The first day more than a half of time does introduce program, second day does simulation of problem solving, and the last does interview.

Each of programs in three days is an unforgettable moment to me. Because It is the first moment to me, took course with lecture from abroad. At first day, we waited for long time where we take course late 4 hours according schedule. When we are waiting, Ms Martha and Ms Melda staff from IRME (Indonesia Realistic Mathematics Education) gave us information, they informed me Mr Maartin might came late which caused by he meet rector of Sriwijaya University before. Everyone in the room more patient waits him.

Exactly 1 O’clock in afternoon Mr Maarten, Mr Zulkardi, Mr R.K.Sembiring, Mr Somakin and Mr Ratu Ilma entered to the room. We altogether sat down. Suddenly, Mr Zulkardi asked us to make formation “IMPoME 2012” in front of class where I to be alphabet “I”. Some of them took potograph. After that, we return to the chair.   Then it is time for Mr Maartin to introduce his self. He only wrote his name on white board and then he asked us to write down our name on paper and folded it to be triangle prism then put on the table. Mr Maartin randomly asked us to introduce our self. After that, in the last meeting he gave us two paper which will be discussed on tomorrow morning.

First day was gone, now this met on the second day. Wherein Mr Maartin camee on time. We altogether discussed content of two papers that was given. We discussed in group  and moved to other group based on direction. In the last meeting, he gave me information again. He said that “tomorrow is last meeting, the crucial day to decide the right candidates who go to Netherland”.

In the night before interview’s day, we all prepared to fight in tomorrow morning. I am going to show all of my ability to answer all question from Mr Maartin. I am going to make he sure that I is the right candidates who have opportunity go to Netherland. Last day was begun, I got fifth chance to do interview. On the interview’s time, he asked me to answer some question, luckily I could answer it. After all candidate of IMPoME 2012 had finished to conduct interview, we waited for while to heard announcement from Mr Maarten and Mr Zulkardi. The Time makes my heart bite so fast, and unfortunately they said I got lowest score.  I’m not to be right candidates, but I always surrender to God, may be this is the best way for me. Although I got lowest score, I still have opportunity to took free English Course along 10 weeks.

My Journey To Get IMPoME Scholarship

At this time, I will share information about my journey to get IMPoME scholarship. I’m wishing this info useful for you to gain another abroad's scholarships. IMPoME is abbreviation of International Master Program on Mathematic Education. So, it’s only for mathematics graduated. Based on consortium between Freudental’s Institute and Indonesia especially University of Surabaya (UNESA) and University of Sriwijiya (UNSRI),  there 3 stages to conduct it’s scholarship i.e. six month study in Indonesian and a years study in Netherland (Freudental’s Institute) and make the last research in Indonesian. It’s offered to candidates who fulfill requirements.
When register information of IMPoME scholarship was published, I tried to prepare the requirement which I  will need. First step, I took ITP TOEFL test about on July 2011 at ELC Palu. My score at first test is so far from my wish. I only got score 437. Might it caused by I never took English course and also  have much schedule teach in the school and private course. To increase gradually my score, I always studied alone at home after came back from teaching at private course. And then 2 month later, I took the second test at same place, fortunately my score grew up to 453. I'm proud although has little improvement. I used this score to complete my document. The next challenges still wait me, because I have to get a proof as New Academic Staff from Tadulako University. I spent my time about a month to get it. Finally, my entire document was complete; I sent it before December 31 2011 or deadline.
After about 2 month waiting the announcement, my friend calls me from UNESA and said that I’m pass. Suddenly, my heart beat faster. I happy, my effort am not hopeless. Immediately, I go to check the truth of that information through internet. I saw my name number 21 of 40 who pass in document screening. It isn’t the last journey, because on March 20 201, I have to take interview at Makasar. On March 19 2012, I went to Makasar, I has big problem when check in at Mutiara airport. Suddenly Sriwijaya Air delay go to Makasar until tomorrow because have broken machine. That situation made me stress and panic, don’t know what I do. I think and think what solution of this problem is. I not want fail in interview test. Fortunately, I have last chance go to Makasar flying with Garuda Airlines on evening although price of ticket is more expensive. Something unforgettable of this moment is I’m flying with seat number 1A in business class. The first time I got special number in my traveling by plane. I hope that is lucky number.
About an hour from Palu to Makasar, the plane landed on Hasannudin International airport from Mutiara airport. I arrived about 7 pm o’clock. then I call my friend asking help to pick me, but he is busy. So I decided to hire someone who using motorcycle (OJEK) accompanies me go to my destination and then arrived to home of my friend. I tell  it’s story to my friend, he just give me advice, all of problem have advantages.
Time was gone; I prepared to go at interview’s place in Makasar State University. When I arrived, other candidates and I waited few minute and then interviewer enters the interview room, He asking us, who is the first want taking interview? We quite all few second look at each other, I decided raise my hand, so I’m the first candidate take interview, when interview was began, I keep calm down to answer all questions in English. I’m happy when finish it. My mind feels so great without problem.
Time always pass way. I’m always checking the result in internet. About 2 week from interview schedule. Announcement about the last candidate who passes or gets scholarship was published. In fact, my name always appears. Thanks God always give chance to be better.

Second Olympiad

About March 2010, Directorate of High Education (DIKTI) again conducting selection in provinces level to compete in regional levels on National Olympiad of Mathematic and Science. Numbers of subjects in Olympiad on 2010 are more than Olympiad on 2009. If in Olympiad on 2009 only conduct three subjects then in Olympiad on 2010 conduct four subjects. Now biology include of them. So number of candidates from each province is adding too. When test on province level were conducted, I again have the highest score in Mathematic matter. While my friend from Department of Mathematics Education Study Program only to be substitutes. I’m very proud, because lucky still with me. Before we go to Makasar exactly in State University of Makasar (UNM), I have training with my friend in Department of Mathematic Study Program. We were trained by lecture from two study program. I also promise in my self to better for my province. April 4 2010 we arrive in Makasar, we take rest in same place when we go to Makasar on first time. One day after take rest, we take test about 2 days few days after announcement’s time have coming. I again fail; I only say “forgive me never give the best for my province” I’m aware that I never open my mind so wide if only live in my city. People said that “ like frog in piece of coconut shell”.
